Encouraging Future Careers
18 March 2025
Following the Nairn Academy careers evening on the 20th of February, we were delighted to welcome to our site Alfie Fraser one of the fifth year pupils at the school.
The visit involved a complete tour of the sawmill operations and an opportunity to discuss career prospects within our business. Alfie was shown round our Nairn operations by Assistant Production manager Andy Falconer.
Alfie had this to say about his visit ‘ The work here at Gordon’s sawmill was very interesting, as I was shown how all the machines operate, how the process of the mill is run and how faults are detected.
Andy showed me all this and was very informative as he talked me through all the parts of how each bit of timber is processed.
I learned a lot from the site visit on how the health and safety side of things work. The health and safety at Gordon’s includes fenced guarding, light curtains and traffic lights, all to keep people safe.
I really enjoyed the visit. It was interesting and Andy was very generous to give me a tour, as it has been a passion of mine to become an electrical / mechanical engineer. Showing me the roles which the engineers perform was very good, as it helps me learn even more about the engineering aspect of things. ‘
